Typical Prices - Drain Cleaning
Please note that this is a "guide" and I am quoting typical prices. Your sewer system may not be "typical" and the costs may vary!
If you are within 10km of Northmead, Benoni the cost to roto machine clean a main line sewer - the "toilet line" is R750.00. This covers the first hour's effort. I am able to clear about 90% of pipes within this time. If I go 5-10 minutes over the hour I don't charge extra. If I have to do multiple insertions at different locations and I go 30 minutes or more over the hour then I do charge extra. The extra charge is R400/hour. This means that 90% of the time the job costs R750 , 9% of the time it costs R1150.00 and in extreme cases it costs R1550.00. There are slight travel surcharges that apply outside our "prime" area. The above process/price applies to 90% of domestic and light commercial drain issues.Contact me for info on these.
The cost to water jet a sewer line with the small portable (200 bar) jetting machine is R1200. This applies within the Benoni area. Outside this area is a bit more. This is for a single run - multiple lines are going to cost more.
The cost to clear a main sewer line or stormwater pipe with the High flow industrial truck or trailer mounted unit starts at R1100/hour. R400 callout fee applies in this case. Other T&C's apply - call for a firm quote.
The cost to clear a "gully" or open drain is generally about R550. We may do this by hand or by machine - depends on the type of blockage. Minimum charge to clear a gully is R500. This is also the cost to clear a blocked toilet bowl/trap by hand.
If I cannot clear the drain for whatever reason then the cost is R550.00 and a maximum of 2 hours. In other words I will call time after 2 hours if I feel that it cannot be cleared. If I get the job to repair it I will discount the R550 from the cost of the repair. If it was a gully that I cannot clear then the cost is R400. Also - if I can see that the job is impossible, the minimum charge is R550, and I dont take the mechanical cleaner off the truck. This does not apply to the truck jetting machine.
In most cases, I will guarantee the cleaning for up to 30 days after I have unblocked the pipe, unless the pipe has collapsed/broken and is essentially un-clearable. If the pipe blocks again within 30 days I will clean it once (only) again at no charge. Why only 30 days? Because I cannot guarantee the physical pipe that we know is defective, nor can I know what is being put down the drain. If it has not been cleared properly then it will generally block again within a reasonably short time. Drains that I have inspected with a camera may be guaranteed for much longer periods. Please note that this applies only to the original length of pipe that I have already cleaned. It does not apply to other parts of the system, upstream or downstream, that block. I will thus insert at the same point and re-clean about 10-20m beyond the last blockage on the same line. "Same line" is considered to be "up to" a manhole or access point.
A camera inspection costs an additional R300.00 if done at the same time as the drain. If we do it on it's own then it will be R550.00. This covers a double insertion of 2x30m. If I clean the drain with the aid of a camera - ie "targeted cleaning", with multiple insertions to target identified (multiple) obstructions the starting cost is R1200. This is a very time consuming excercise and it may be more.
"But I can get it cheaper from XYZ" I often hear. Yes I am sure you can sometimes - or you think you can. Some companies will use hand equipment to unblock the pipe and they are often cheaper. Problem is that they only unblock the pipe for a while - they don't tear out or cut the obstruction. Hand equipment often has a limited range. Other companies will quote you a lower "base" or call out price and then rapidly escalate things when they get there - either by the meter or by the hour. I only know of one other company that offers a 30 day guarantee on a drain - my friend Graham - The Drain Corporation (Germiston)!
Please consider that the equipment we use is fairly expensive to buy and we can end up with around R12k's worth of spirals "down the drain"! The work we do is "owner operated". I clear your drains myself. I do not use randomly selected teams that work in your property or house and I guarantee my work!
